The Importance of Packaging Printing

When considering the role of packaging in advertising the product, business owners tend to undermine its importance. One would say that you shouldn’t judge the book by its cover, right? Wrong – at least when it comes to product packaging.

The significance of the packaging is most explicitly revealed in one of the recent studies which indicates the one third of consumers chose a certain product just because of its packaging! But why is that? What is the logic behind this most peculiar behavior? When the packaging is done right, the consumer will be immediately drawn to the product and compelled to complete the purchase. Why so?

There are at least two reasons for this almost magnetic appeal of the product packaging: marketing and security. First, it should be noted that the packaging is the mediator between the consumer, the product and the brand. The packaging tells the story of the product, not just in writing (by depicting the content of the box), but also with its shape, colors and overall design. Furthermore, the packaging conveys the more general message of the brand and creates the brand recognition.  On the other hand, the packaging is there to protect your product. At its most base level, the role of the packaging is to keep the product safe during the shipment and shelf-display. For this reason, you’ll need to think carefully when choosing the type of material for your product packaging. Here at Presslink, our printing experts will help you decide which material is the most suitable for your project.

Now that you’ve learned about the importance of the packaging, the next question you’d want explore is: what type of printing is the best for packaging?

Types of Packaging Printing

There are several types of packaging printing. Of course, each one of them comes with certain advantages and disadvantages. In order to choose the right one, you’ll need to consider the features of each printing service, but also the requirements of you project. Lithography or Offset Printing – Used for printing folding cartons and labels. This type of printing is best suitable for consumer products, cosmetic boxes, food boxes, etc.
Flexography – Most commonly used to print plastic pouches (juice package, for example), corrugated boxes and even milk cartons and shrink-wrap.
Digital Printing – It has probably the widest application, but the most typical uses are labels, corrugated boxes, prototypes and folding cartons.
Rotogravure – It is used for printing on very thin materials, such as polyester and nylon. Perfect for flexible packaging (stand-up pouches) and packaging with lamination.
Silkscreen – It works well for printing on glass and metal bottles, best suitable for items like glass fragrance bottles and plastic tubes for body lotion, shampoo, etc.
